The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program that makes dental care accessible for millions of Canadians who don't have private dental insurance. If you qualify, treatment at For Your Smile Dental may be fully or partially covered — at no extra cost to you beyond your income-based co-pay.
We are a registered CDCP provider. We verify your coverage, bill Sun Life directly, and handle the entire process on your behalf. You just need to show up.
For Your Smile Dental is a registered Canadian Dental Care Plan provider. We verify coverage and bill Sun Life directly — you only pay your co-pay, if any.
Who Qualifies
To be eligible for CDCP, you must meet all four of the following criteria:
- Canadian resident with a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- No access to private dental insurance — including employer-sponsored plans, even if you haven't used them
- Household income under $90,000/year based on your most recent tax return (Adjusted Family Net Income)
- Filed your income tax return — you and your spouse (if applicable) must have filed for the prior year
If you have access to employer dental coverage and choose to opt out, you are NOT eligible for CDCP. Declining available coverage does not make you eligible.
What Is Covered
CDCP covers a comprehensive range of dental services. Key covered services at our clinic include:
- Dental exams and X-rays — including our AI-supported comprehensive exam
- Professional cleaning and scaling — including our GBT cleaning protocol
- Fluoride treatments and fissure sealants
- Fillings — composite and amalgam
- Root canal therapy — on anterior, premolar, and molar teeth
- Extractions — simple and surgical
- Crowns and dentures — with preauthorization from Sun Life
- Periodontal treatment — scaling and root planing
- Emergency dental assessment
Cosmetic procedures (whitening, veneers, implants) are not covered.
Understanding Your Co-Pay
Your co-payment is based on your household income:
If your income is under $70,000, the government covers 100% of eligible services. At $70,000–$79,999, you pay 40% of the CDCP fee for each service. Note that our standard fees may differ from the CDCP fee grid — we will always tell you upfront if any balance billing applies.
How to Use It at Our Clinic
Using your CDCP at For Your Smile Dental is simple. When you book, let us know you're a CDCP member. We verify your active coverage with Sun Life before your appointment. On the day, we provide treatment, bill Sun Life directly, and you pay only your co-pay if applicable. No forms, no reimbursement chasing.
Key 2026 Dates
April 14, 2026 — Last day to apply for the current benefit year. If you haven't applied, act immediately.
April 15 – June 1, 2026 — Renewal window for existing members. Miss it and your coverage ends June 30.
June 2, 2026 — New applications open for the 2026–2027 benefit year.
